SCARY MOVIES

We dread being scared out of our wits but we must admit that we still love a good scare once in awhile.

For two weeks, and in line with the Halloween season, the Sidetracked segment of TEN The Evening News shared with you, some of the more popular ghost videos from the net.

We had to extend it for another night last November 2, 2009 because we really received a lot of materials, mostly from the TENers.

So what did we show during the “pahabol” Halloween edition of Sidetracked?

Scary movies.

Especially because a lot of us are into scary movie marathon during this time of the year.

Here’s a rundown of lists from the net.

So what do we recommend?

Based on these site listings and also because we have seen most of these scary flicks… here are the picks of TEN’s Sidetracked:

(in no particular order)

THE OTHERS starring Nicole Kidman. (It is all about the twist in the end, also the old film creepy feel of the whole movie)

THE ORPHANAGE (This well made film from Spain will surely give you goose bumps and will also tug at your heartstrings especially if you are a mom or a son/daughter who loves your mother dearly. This will scare you and will also make you cry.)

THE EYE

Babylon 5: A Call to Arms movie download

Raging Sharks psp

(This is the Pan-Asian film crafted by the Pang brothers. After watching this film, I never looked at any hanging dimsum fare in Chinese restos the same way again. Also, I developed a phobia of riding elevators alone. Nakupo!)

SHUTTER (The original film Thailand, of course. Because of this film, I’ve started checking out photos looking for orbs)

THREE (The first incarnation of this Pan Asian horror franchise is the best. For me, the best segment in the very first trilogy of Three is the last segment called Going Home, it made me think twice in exploring some of the inner streets and old buildings in Hong Kong)

Speaking of Hong Kong, another film is the HK movie DUMPLINGS. The horror of finding out what’s inside those siomais!

Then there’s 28 DAYS LATER

Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus ipod

. (The first one is the best. No need to elaborate, just watch it.)

Ghost in the suburbs? Try the first edition of POLTERGEIST. (makes you want to check if your home was built in a cemetery lot before it was developed into something else)

Local scary movies:

BASAG ANG PULA

starring Ace Vergel and Snooky Serna. Set in Baguio, this slasher movie is waaaaaay ahead of the successful Hollywood slasher franchise, SCREAM. Nakakatakot si Ace Vergel sa pelikulang ito.

HAPLOS The Hairy Tooth Fairy movie download Rapid Fire download starring Rio Locsin, Vilma Santos and Boyet de Leon. What if your ka-love triangle is a ghost? What if the house you keep visiting across the river doesn’t really exits anymore because it was gutted down during the war? What if you love the ghost more than the one who is still alive? Love story na, horror pa.

Some of the classic episodes of Regal Film’s SHAKE RATTLE AND ROLL franchise. In my list Janice de Belen’s Pridyider and Manilyn Reynes’ Aswang. Sadly, the more recent editions of the trilogy are no longer as good as the earlier ones.

Blast from the past!

My personal pick: ANG MGA BATA NG LAGIM.

This was made in 1964 but my generation saw this repeatedly over at the old channel 9 because the station showed film classics in the afternoons back then.

This is a star studded film!

As per the listing of IMDB.com:
Rosemarie Sonora, Blanca Gomez, Gina Pareño, Shirley Moreno, Loretta Marquez, Nori Dalisay, Sarah Calvin, Liana Ghigliotti, Dindo Fernando, Bert Leroy Jr., Pepito Rodriguez, Boy Alano, German Moreno, Edgar Salcedo, Boy Planas, Chichay, Matimtiman Cruz, Herminia Carranza, Cora Maceda, Aring Bautista, Isa Rino, Marcela Garcia, Jose Morelos, Hector Mallares, Jaime Javier, Venchito Galvez, Santiago Dueñas, Fausto Tolentino, Boy Tuazon etc etc…

Classified as a horror-comedy film, the plot is quite simple, a group goes on a field trip and enters a haunted town and mansion. Highlights: the rising of the tirintas whenever something scary will happen, also the transformation of Chichay and German Moreno as manananggals because of a beauty lotion.

RPN9 do you still have a copy of this film? Replay please?

Saw a link of this film on the net, dunno if it still works.

We ended the segment with this funny ghost video…

Multong, “nabuko”!
