The very first ASIAN IDOL is… HADY MIRZA!!! Congratulations, SINGAPORE!

Great job, host country INDONESIA.

I’m a new fan of Jaclyn Victor and Mike Mohede just as I am a proud fan of Mau Marcelo.

Mau, you were great in Asian Idol, thank you very much for representing the Philippines! Mabuhay ka!!!

(I hope there will be a group album for the FIRST EVER Asian Idol contenders, based on the supposed “millions of votes cast” last night, there is a market for this CD!)

Based on news coming from the host country and some of the forums on the net, we are in for a very exciting first ever staging of ASIAN IDOL.

The performance night is over (it was taped last December 12, 2007), and as one forum commenter said, our very own Mau Marcelo already delivered and gave it her all, so it is now up to her fellow countrymen to do their part in supporting our bid to bag the crown.

ABC 5, will be airing the performance night tonight, December 15, around 8pm.

What to expect? Great stage, great lighting, great performances from all the Asian Idol bets.

Mau reportedly gave her all in singing AKO ANG NAGWAGI and REACH.

Even our “favorite” Philippine Idol judge, Ms. Pilita Corales is getting rave reviews for being a good judge.

AIRING SCHEDULE

“To address differences in time zones (and in some cases, telecast dates), shows about Asian Idol was broadcast on different time slots and dates depending on the country. For instance, viewers in Indonesia, Philippines, and Malaysia, watched Road to Asian Idol on December 8, 2007, while it was shown in Vietnam on December 9. Viewers in India and Singapore will watch the preview program on December 14. The Performance Night was taped on December 12, 2007, in Hall D2 of Arena Pekan Raya Jakarta. This program will be seen first by viewers in Vietnam on December 14, 2007, followed by viewers in other participating countries on December 15, 2007, although in different time slots. The Results Show, meanwhile, will be shown on December 16, 2007, with varying time slots.”

VOTING PROCEDURE

“There are several differences in voting and tabulation between Asian Idol and other Idol shows. Unlike the latter wherein the viewers get to vote for one contestant, the voting procedure for Asian Idol requires viewers to send SMS votes for two favorite Idols, thus allowing contestants to receive votes aside from their respective countries.
As consideration on population size among the participating countries, tabulation of votes are done through an “Equal and Even Cumulative Method”, wherein the total votes of each country are converted into percentages. The winner will be determined through 50% viewers’ votes and 50% judges’ scores.”

“If you wish to have your favorite idol as the winner of Asian Idol competition, please prepare to vote from now. You now can choose 2 of your most favorite idols in one vote, but avoid choosing the same country twice, because that vote would not be valid. Why? Because we have to normalize votes due to population count differences in participating countries. You can vote any two countries soon after the voting lines are opened during the Asian Idol performance show. So stay on your local channel and keep visiting this website for more info because every vote is precious for your idol.”

How to Vote

Each voter in every country has to
vote for 2 Idols within each SMS. The
voter cannot vote for the same Idol
twice in the same SMS.
Note that in Philippines, voters need
to type ‘VOTE” in SMS.

(Author’s note: there are texts going around that since a voter should vote for two country bets, we should vote for Singapore because it is a relatively smaller country population wise, as opposed to voting for India which has more than 1 billion possible voters. But after seeing the charismatic bet of Singapore and all the support and buzz he’s getting on line, I’m not so sure about “the strategy”. Baka si Hardy pa ang manalo niyan ha! Hehehehe)

Even if you didn’t get to watch ABC 5’s airing of ASIAN IDOL performance night tonight, you can still give your support by voting for her via text.

Remember, the text voting will be from tonight (Saturday, December 15) until 11pm (Sunday, December 16).

Mau did her part last December 12 (and a lot of people who saw her perform in Indonesia says she was really great and that she deserves to win), it is now our duty to support our very talented kababayan so she’ll be crowned the very first ASIAN IDOL.

Too bad this youTube clip doesn’t have the full judging part. Maganda generally ang mga komento ng judges kay Mau. One even gave her a standing ovation for her first number and on her REACH rendition, some judges swayed their hands way up in the air, with their heads nodding in approval.

Remember, even if you failed to see the show last night, you can still vote for MAU until 1130pm tonight (SUNDAY December 16).

And you still have to vote for a second country. As i said above, I am not 100% sure about the supposed strategy to vote for the PHIL_SIN combination just because of population size. The better strategy is to spread the vote to all the other countries.

The important thing is… keep on voting, we saw the show last night and we all know that Mau performed well, all she needs to bag the title is our support thru text. Let us do our part, tukungan naman natin ang ating kababayang si MAU. Pamaskong handog na lang natin ito sa kaniya at sa bansa (lalu kapag nanalo siya).
